Junko’s Story: Surviving Hiroshima’s Atomic Bomb

by SBS

‘Junko’s Story’ is One Page editorial revisiting life just after the atomic bomb hit Hiroshima in World War 2. There is good attention to detail throughout the site – especially those info hotspots with the subtle textures (while blurring the website behind it) are a lovely added touch. This One Pager also officially launches our new category Long-form Journalism One Page websites.

The harrowing experience of a city as told through one thirteen year old girl’s eyes. Junko’s Story is recounted with first hand testimony, and supplemented with illustration, artefacts from ground zero, infographics and video.

We used subtle SVG animation on rollovers, and a spotlight effect when the user opens a “read more” panel; this was created by layering multiple CSS backgrounds.
