What it means

It can explain a project history, a career, an event schedule or a planned roadmap. Dates, labels and spacing should help readers understand the order. If the visual spacing is not proportional to time, the labels carry the meaning and should be explicit.

Use it in practice

Separate completed milestones from future plans. Keep the order easy to follow when a horizontal composition becomes vertical on a phone.

Watch out for

Do not let decorative lines or alternating cards obscure the sequence. A proposed date should not look like a completed event.
